Martin Garrix Withdraws Lawsuit Against Spinnin Records

Martin Garrix has released a press statement this morning informing that he has withdrawn his lawsuit against Spinnin’ Records, for which was aiming to retain exclusive licence to his masters and music.

Dear all,I hereby inform you that I have withdrawn the summary proceedings against Spinnin Records (kort geding) of 3 December 2015.As a result of further negotiations, Spinnin Records has transferred ownership rights of my music back to me, which was the main goal of the summary proceedings. I will grant Spinnin Records an exclusive license (for a limited period) for the tracks that were released by Spinnin Records until August 2015.The remaining differences of opinion between parties will most probably be subject of further legal proceedings. In the meantime parties will keep trying to resolve this matter amicably.Best regards,Martijn Garritsen

Rave Inside An Icelandic Glacier: Secret Solstice Announces Second Annual Festival

Music festivals have become ubiquitous in the omnipresent state of the EDM bubble, so its appropriate to see promotion companies trying to take their events to the next level. Secret Solstice did just that, as they put on an unforgettable festival in an Icelandic glacier last June. If you happened to miss out, don’t fret, as they recently announced the dates for next year’s blissful extravaganza, taking place in the glacial wonderland known as Langjökull. Recognized as the second largest glacier in Europe, the location couldn’t be more sublime for its attendees.

The festival bus leaves from Reykjavík, and proceeds to drive you to a former NASA rocket transporter which finally takes you to the top of the glacier. Man Sentenced to 3 Years In Federal Prison For Online Piracy

Piracy is a huge problem in the music industry, as more and more artists are seeing their online sales dwindle. The man responsible for a significant amount of illegal online distribution was taken to court last fall and has just been sentenced to federal prison for 3 years, a major win for the music industry.

23-year-old Rocky Ouprasith is the man behind RockDizMusic.com and RockDizFile.com, the second largest illegal file-sharing system in the world. Ouprasith operated for three and a half years and was responsible for the distribution of an estimated $2.5 million and $7 million worth of copyrighted material through his sites, respectively. On top of his 3-year prison sentence, Rocky will also be on federal probation for another two years. Additionally, he was ordered to forfeit $50,851 in profits and pay $48,289 in restitution.

The Recording Industry Association of America has been vocal throughout this case, and are very pleased with the outcome. Brad Buckles, the group’s anti-piracy executive VP, had this to say about the verdict:

This sentence should send a message that operating a flagrantly illegal business that steals from others by engaging in criminal activity online has real consequences.

While this obviously hasn’t put an end to online piracy, it should serve as a warning for those hoping to make a quick buck off other people’s hard work.

AXWELL TEASES A SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA REUNION

Since this could easily be the biggest news of the year, we’re not going to beat around the bush and just give you the scoop right away: Axwell just premiered his newest single called ‘Waiting For So Long’ on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1. After the track begins to fade away, the radio rip breaks into an interview between Zane and the Swedish maestro, in which he hints that the famed Swedish House Mafia would come together as a trio, after 3 long years, to work on a new project. Here are Axwell’s exact words:

"We think about it every now and then, you know what we left, what we did, what we’ve accomplished and everything; and how it would be to do something together again. But I think, the only thing is that time will tell pretty much. We have been blessed to be riding this wave, and just ahead of the wave for some time now, so you know we are able to do exactly what we want, which is a blessing. You know this song that we just played here, it was just like no thoughts, no need, no nothing, just music. Who knows what happens in the future, we might get a sudden urge to Swedish House Mafia it up again… who knows!"

While he leaves us wanting a much more definitive answer, we can appreciate that they are at least open to the idea, and can only dream that one day, just maybe, the legendary trio will rise again.
